TODO: Problems with Slam Soccer 2006

Problems under Linux

  • TODO: Problems with Slam Soccer 2006

I can only see a single-colored block instead of the stadium (e.g. red or white).

Do you have a video card from NVIDIA? Probably you use the "high quality" setting. Change this setting to "performance" (or something like that). (Thanks for the tip to Christopher Wolf)
Alternative solution: Since version 1.0.3 there is a patch for this bug. Download the new game.jar and replace the old game.jar.

The game crashes at the beginning and shows an error message about a "log.txt". In this file (quite at the bottom) I can find "ERROR" and "com.xenoage.bp2k6.Main threw an exception: OpenAL error: Invalid Value".

    Download this patch:
    http://prdownloads.sourceforge.net/bp2k6/patch-1.0.1.zip?download
(simply replace the file "game.jar" in the main folder)

Why isn't it possible to use the keyboard for two players at the same time?

This depends on the keyboard. Many keyboards (especially notebook keyboards) can not handle more than about 4 keypresses at the same time. Each player needs about 2 or 3 keys at the same time, and so the remaining key events are ignored. The best solution for that problem is to use at least one gamepad. Even with cheap gamepads Slam Soccer 2006 can be played quite well.

The 2d images in the game (e.g. text, buttons, team logos...) look strangely distorted.

Install the lastest drivers for your video card. If this doesn't help, try some other screen resolutions (settings.exe, settings.sh), e.g. 1024x768 or 1280x1024. (Thanks for the tip to Marius Schmitz)

Suddenly I can not control my player any more, regardless of which keys I press.

Pay attention not to press the keys "Alt" and "Alt Gr". These keys change the focus of the window, so it can not receive events any more. If it happens anyway, klick with your mouse into the window and you have control again. (Thanks for the tip to Marc Rüther)

  • Problems under Linux

In Linux the game crashed from time to time. The error message: "open /dev/[sound/]dsp: Device or resource busy" und dann "Exception in thread "main" java.lang.UnsatisfiedLinkError: nalGenBuffers ...", or in log.txt: "com.xenoage.bp2k6.audio.lwjgl.LWJGLSoundEngine: AL.create() failed!" and "com.xenoage.bp2k6.audio.lwjgl.LWJGLSoundEngine threw an exception: Could not open ALC device".

Install a newer ALSA version (>= 1.0.9) that is able to do software mixing. Then reboot your system. (Thanks for the tip to Phillip M. Jordan)
